It’s the central location and roster of amenities that makes this hotel a prime destination for busy travellers, those seeking standard creature comforts on the go, and groups in need of conferencing facilities.
Its large Eclipse Restaurant provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner (a la carte or buffet), and drinks can be had in the downstairs Eclipse Bar and soon-to-be-reopened upstairs Skye Bar (perhaps the hotel’s best-kept secret).
Boasting a total of 301 rooms, visitors can take their pick between standard twin and queen rooms, superior king rooms, executive king rooms, executive premium rooms, king suites, premier king suites, and accessible rooms that have been adapted with additional mobility requirements in mind. The hotel is currently undergoing a refurbishment: ask for a room that has already been completed if you’re looking for a slightly more modern, tranquil feel to your stay.
The hotel’s first floor is dedicated to conferencing, with nine adaptable venues of all sizes and a dedicated catering service that will ensure meetings are not had on an empty stomach. We spent a day working in the smallest of these rooms; read all about or Roaming Office experience here.
Conference rooms on the ninth floor can accommodate up to 120 people and smaller, impromptu meetings, are often held in the lobby.
Southern Sun Sandton offers a range of amenities for its guests. In addition to conference rooms and event spaces, restaurants, and bars, the hotel also has a small, rooftop swimming pool designed more for leisure than actual exercise. While there is a small fitness gym available, guests who want to run up their cardio or strength training can take advantage of Southern Sun Sandton's agreement with Planet Fitness at The Marc. Hotel guests can use the facilities at Planet Fitness for a rate of R70 per day, a reduced rate.
