Join Mbali Zwane of Eyitha Tours for this unique walking tour of historic Sophiatown. A victim of the apartheid state's policy of forced removals, in 1955 all non-white residents of this vibrant multi-racial neighbourhood, famed for its swinging jazz scene, were forced from their homes and sent to live in newly built townships south of the city before the entire area was razed to the ground to make way for a new 'whites-only' suburb.

The tour traces a path through the few buildings that survived the apartheid state's bulldozers and includes the opportunity to chat with some of the residents of Sophiatown who lived through the forced removals about their experiences.

The tour starts at 10:00 at the Sophiatown Shopping Center (outside the KFC), cnr Edward Rd and Millar St, Sophiatown.
