Sophiatown Arts Festival

Saturday Mar 28 14:00–18:00

One of Joburg's most iconic historic neighbourhoods, Sophiatown, was the home of South Africa's Drum generation of artists, poets and musicians back in the 1950s before being completely demolished by the apartheid state's policy of forced removals. Following the end of apartheid the neighbourhood has sought to claim back its heritage and again become a cultural melting pot with an artistic spirit.

Each year the community hosts a festival that celebrates local arts and culture through a programme of community walking tours, storytelling, poetry sessions, live music and a food and craft market hosted at numerous venues across the neighbourhood including the community centre and museum Sophiatown The Mix.
