In his third solo exhibition with SMAC Gallery, cheekily named <em>New Paintings,</em> Simon Stone, one of South Africa's most renowned artists, presents a series of brand new paintings all completed during 2016. Perhaps best known for his public artworks, including sculptures and mosaics, Stone is also an accomplished painter. In this series Stone juxtaposes land and cityscapes with figures, still lifes, floating objects and abstract elements in large-scale paintings on canvas and oil on cardboard. Known for his various stylistic approaches, which include sketching, oil painting and mosaic, Stone's pin-board compositions set different genres alongside each other within one frame to create a vivid and poetic account of his own personal journey.<br /> <br /> Opening event Sat Oct 22 at 11:00.
