Now in its 28th year, the SAFW Spring/Summer 2024 event is set to be the most sustainable and eco-friendly season yet since adopting a clean fashion ethos in 2019. According to SAFW director Lucilla Booyzen, 73% of the designers participating in the event have committed to responsible fashion production, aligning with their vision of a non-toxic industry.
The must-attend Mr Price New Talent Search kicks off this season's fashion week, which has launched many successful fashion industry careers, including those of Lukhanyo Mdingi, Jacques Bam, and Fikile Sokhulu, while the The Cruz Collective show features the much-anticipated show of Imprint, and Michael Ludwig.
On the second day of SAFW, industry icon Jacques van der Watt of Black Coffee opens a three-signature Isuzu Luxury Collections show, demonstrating the impact of pleating in fashion. Then, L'Oréal Paris hosts South Africa's first "Walk Your Worth" event on the SAFW runway featuring a special collection by Biji la Maison de Couture and bringing together 30 celebrities to celebrate women's empowerment.
Additionally, as part of a partnership between Mozambique Fashion Week and South African Fashion Week, three Mozambican designers – Sania Bacar, Shaazia Adam, and Omar Adelino – will be participating in SAFW this season.
