Row-G
He returned to South Africa in the late 1990s and showcased his first ready-to-wear collection at SA Fashion Week. However, enticed by the elegance of Savile Row in London he began an apprenticship under the masterful eye of Alan Percival of Chester Bernie, a gentleman's tailor who has been a fixture on Savile Row since 1935.
His addition of traditional bespoke tailoring to his repertoire in conjunction with his well-known cutting-edge style led him to create Row-G along with his brother Shaheed. Located in Marshalltown within Joburg's city centre, visits are by appointment only.
The establishment of Row-G took the brothers five years of planning for it to become a bespoke luxury local brand. Rahim Rawjee is also at the head of The Blue Blazer Foundation, an award honouring African individuals who are changing Africa and the world.
Africa is a premier destination for custom-made clothing for men and women. Joburg is one of those fashion capitals – a city filled with tailoring rooms, machinists and other clothing artisans.
To make his signature garments Row-G collaborates with craftspeople from all around the world as well as partner mills and wool merchants. Each piece is handcrafted in Joburg by a skilled team of tailors from Malawi and Zimbabwe, with a total tailoring experience of more than 150 years. Each tailor specialises in a specific aspect – such as bespoke suits, jackets, shirt-making and trousers. The result - a masterpiece.
This experience is for the pure fashion connoisseur.
