This hotel is a colourful, sexy and edgy space that's perfect for the movers and shakers of the city. See our review of the Radisson RED Rosebank hotel here.
We recently (April 2023) took our roaming office to Radisson RED Rosebank, where we spent the day as a team using the hotel as our workspace.
Upon entering, we were greeted by a young and enthusiastic front desk team as eager to help as they are to engage in friendly conversation. The hotel has a social conscience and engages with social causes (which really resonates with us in a city where there is so much need). At the time we visited, the hotel was running a denim drive in partnership with SOS Children's Village, encouraging guests and staff to donate their old denim to the children's shelter.
The walls upstairs, like the rest of the hotel, host the bold and edgy contemporary photography of Zanele Muholi who was commissioned by Radisson RED to create these standout works. Displayed on the first floor is a ball gown that the photographer created in collaboration with Gavin Rajah, made of sanitary pads aimed to visually articulate the beauty of womanhood by use of something that historically hasn't been viewed as beautiful. Zanele Muholi's exhibition Somnyama Ngonyama (meaning ‘Hail, the Dark Lioness’) will be on show at Radisson RED until Sat, Sep 2, 2023.
Each year the hotel changes the major artworks - many of them floor to ceiling photographs and showcases the work of a single African artist. We worked from studio number four, one of six working and meeting spaces. The space was filled with natural light and colourful decor which really give it a unique atmosphere - in tune with the hotel's overall funky style and designed to inspire creative thinking. Of course, all our tech needs were catered for, and there was plenty of space for brainstorming new ideas.
For breakfast, we were treated to a spread of sweet and savoury pastries, and fresh fruit. But as we all know no workday morning would be complete without a good cup of coffee, so thankfully, our workspace was located within close proximity of a swanky coffee machine delivering cappuccinos, lattes and black coffee at the press of a button.
But it was lunch at OUIBar + KTCHN, curated by executive chef, Genghis San, that stole the show. We were presented with a variety of dishes to sample from seriously succulent pieces of steak and saucy tomato pasta to fragrant Basmati rice and a curious but delicious roasted baby marrow and cranberry salad. The portions were generous, the ingredients were fresh and the flavours were out of this world.
The restaurant is also a pleasant place to work with a large and spacious dining room dipped in sunlight and teeming with friendly energy. It's also the perfect location to retreat for after-work drinks or even take a selfie at the bar using a high-tech camera that also displays your photo on the large screens which also showcase red and black-themed photographs.
Or head to the rooftop bar, our favourite place to unwind and network after a long day of work. If you're lucky enough to be there on a Thursday (like we were), you can enjoy a bottomless bubbles special while taking in the stunning views of Johannesburg. For R399 per person you can sip the day away with premium bubbles and an appetizer from 16:00-18:00. You can also spend a Sunday at the restaurant for their iconic "seven colours" lunch.
Radisson RED Rosebank is an excellent destination for creatives looking for an exciting and perfectly serviced workspace. The location is fantastic - a short walk to and from the Gautrain station, and central Rosebank's retail and restaurant delights - the menu is delicious and the atmosphere is just what you need to get that creativity flowing. We loved our team day spent there.
