A new group exhibition at Melrose Gallery prompts us to consider what’s “kept quiet” in contemporary society and why.
Titled Quiet as it’s Kept, the exhibition is curated by Melrose Gallery’s Ruzy Rusike and features an impressive line-up of artists including Tamary Kudita, Philiswa Lila, Tayhe Munsamy, Sahlah Davids, Lebohang Motaung, Kganya Mogashoa, Bulumko Mbete, Zenande Mketeni, Phumzile Buthelezi and Ilana Seati.
Collectively, the work on show grapples with the themes of resilience, pain and generational trauma. Speaking about the exhibition, Ruzike explains that, "Quiet as it's Kept is not simply an exhibition of art; it is a bridge towards an inclusive and alternate exploration into understanding the human condition. Catapulting us into the unknown forms of expression [and] thus tapping into reality."
