You're a Bird, Sing a Song is Guns & Rain's first exhibition in their new Parkhurst gallery space and features upcoming artists Princia Matungulu and Sizwe Sama. In You're a Bird, Sing a Song these two textile artists explore kinship, heritage and mothering. The title of the exhibition comes from a Kiswahili saying of Matungulu’s mother’s, Uko ndege, Imba mwimbo, which tells one to embrace a positive attitude to the world. There couldnt be a more appropriate time for this message. 

As the two artists dive into their own familial connections and community Matungulu and Sama bring up questions of what community means in present-day South Africa? How do we tell and transmit stories from past to future? And what role do women play within this?

Exhibition opens Thu, Mar 16 from 18:00–20:00. Walk about with the artists on Sat, Mar 18 from 10:00–13:00.
