The 16 oil paintings on display depict those moments when we're cast into darkness, and without devices to distract us, re-find ways of connecting with those around us. Rulore captures intimate moments and the quiet calm which falls in the darkness of load-shedding. He brings the viewer into the homes and lived experiences of those living in townships. As we pause and wait for the lights to return, we are briefly transported away from the world around us, and it is this tension which Rulore's works so movingly explore. Patrick Rulore is a Sasol New Signatures award-winning artist.
