Guatemalan photographer Oscar Gutierrez first came to Southern Africa in 1994 on assignment as a newspaper photojournalist and originally settled in Mozambique before moving to South Africa in the middle of the country’s transition to democracy. As a photojournalist covering the initial negotiations of South Africa’s constitution and the country's first democratic elections, Gutierrez became an important documenter of a country at a pivotal moment in history. This exhibition presents some of Gutierrez's most iconic and memorable images from that time and is timed to coincide with the centenary of the late Nelson Mandela, showing Mandela and other South African luminaries during one of the most important moments in the country's history.
The photographs from the exhibition are on sale and 5% of all proceeds will go to the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
