Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra: 'Rhythms of Hope' tour 2024
Thursday Nov 28 19:30–21:30
27 St Andrews Rd, Parktown
South Africa's renowned national orchestra kicks off a cross-country tour with a performance in Joburg. Led by celebrated conductor Kirill Karabits, the Rhythms of Hope concert series is set to deliver a fascinating musical journey. The premiere of Philip Miller's Shaka iLembe Suite (composed for the hit television show of the same name) is part of the programme, and is brought to life by vocalists Mbuso Khoza and Ann Masina, as well as a centennial tribute to Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue performed by pianist Leo Gevisser – a recent graduate of The Juilliard School in New York. Rimsky-Korsakov's epic Scheherazade, conducted by Sarah Oates, completes the line-up.
Continuing the national tour, the Mzansi Philharmonic performs concerts in Bloemfontein on Sun, Dec 1, and in Cape Town on Wed, Dec 4. Highlights include French luthier Antoine Gourdon's live violin build throughout the tour, culminating in a special presentation to a young musician. As part of its community outreach, the Mzansi Philharmonic will also stage a performance for students at Athlone School for the Blind in Cape Town.
Don't miss this celebration of unity and musical excellence marking 30 years of democracy in South Africa, on Thu, Nov 28 from 19:30 at Joburg's Linder Auditorium. Book tickets here.
