Manuela Karin Knaut - Displacement

Thursday Nov 30 - Sunday Dec 3       1 Eloff St (cnr Eloff and Wemmer Jubilee Sts), City Centre
share
Joburg-based German artist, photographer and sculptor Manuela Karin Knaut describes herself as a “seeker of objects, a collector, a player” and her works typically focus on contemporary issues and common universal themes such as home, love, memory and loneliness, expressed through a Joburg-centric lens that is both frank and poetic.

Her latest exhibition Displacement takes place in her studio in the inner-city development 1 Eloff Street over the space of three days. Featuring a large-scale installation of a boat which Knaut envisions as travelling through both the past and present, Knaut uses historically significant objects such as portraits she found or sourced to investigate the individual’s role in an increasingly globalised world. A montage of video projections, sound, installation and photography, Displacement takes the viewer on a journey through the interactions between personal memories and collective histories.

Opening event Thu Nov 30 at 17:00.
