Mail Art/ists Books is an exhibition curated by Wilhelm van Rensburg at the Jack Ginsberg Centre for Book Arts (speak to the security guard at the front desk of WAM for help find it). It showcases works by Cheryl Penn, Kim Lieberman, Walter Batiss and a selection of works by local and international artists. Mail art came into being in the 1940s and refers to any art sent through a postal system. Since then it has evolved as communication has changed and recently saw a resurgence as a result of the Covid lock downs. The exhibition provides a view of these changes with the artists spanning different generations and mediums and it shows how mail art informed the artists' broader practices.
Join WAM and JGCBA on Sat, Feb 11 at 12:00 for a walkabout with Cheryl Penn and the curator Wilhelm van Rensburg.
