The South African State Theatre brings the first-ever stage adaptation of veteran broadcaster and journalist Redi Thlabi’s critically-acclaimed book Khwezi: the remarkable story of Fezekile Ntsukela Kuzwayo, which details the life of the late young woman known also as Khwezi, who former-President Jacob Zuma was accused of raping in 2005.

Adapted by Golden Horn award-winning playwright and director Napo Masheane, the play traces Khwezi's life from her childhood growing up among anti-apartheid activists, to her journey to Joburg in search of her father’s heritage and her violation at the hands of her father’s former best friend “Malume” (uncle) Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma. Masheane explains that  “the audience wears the skin of victims of such brutality, our minds are provoked, and emotions interrogated” in this hard-hitting new play.
