Kamil Hassim: Event Horizon
Friday Mar 17 - Saturday Mar 25
Cnr Joubert St and Kotze St, Braamfontein
Kamil Adam Hassim is currently exploring the ways in which culture influences how we interface with the universe. His work sits at the intersections of art, science and indigenous knowledge systems.
An event horizon is the point in a black hole after which no light can escape. In this exhibition Hassim plays with constructed and deconstructed information, perception and optical effects generated by defunct lenses used in astronomy. The exhibition explores the potential for technology to expand our senses and inform new ways of seeing and it blurs the boundaries between the individual, each other, and the universe around us.
Event Horizon is presented in collaboration with the South African Astronomical Observatory.
Exhibition opens Fri, Mar 17 at 18:00.
