Join SAMA Award-winning trumpeter and conductor Marcus Wyatt as he leads the JPO and his own ZAR Jazz Orchestra. Featuring iconic jazz compositions from legends such as Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba, and Abdullah Ibrahim, alongside contemporary stars such as Feya Faku and Benjamin Jephta.Wyatt is joined by an extraordinary line-up of soloists, including Siyabonga Mthembu (of The Brother Moves On), Siya Makuzeni, and special guest vocalist Tutu Puoane. It promises to be an inspiring journey through five decades of South African jazz, with performances from some of the country’s finest musicians.

The weekend continues with the Devroop Jazz Quintet as Karendra Devroop, one of South Africa’s leading saxophonists, joins the JPO for an exceptional afternoon of jazz. Conducted by Eddie Clayton, this concert showcases the Quintet’s talent, featuring Roland Moses on keys, Mageshen Naidoo on guitar, Romy Brauteseth on double bass, and Rob Watson on drums. With a career that spans global stages, Devroop brings his masterful sound to Johannesburg for a performance not to be missed.
With its blend of symphonic grandeur and jazz legacy, the JPO Symphonic Jazz Festival 2024 is set to be a wonderful celebration of South Africa’s musical heritage.
