From 11:00 to 15:00 on each day three different artist studio spaces open their doors to the public, presenting a unique opportunity to meet the artists, engage with their work, learn more about the creative process and buy artworks directly, all within a lively, social atmosphere. In addition to the open studios, throughout the day there are also different activations and performances happening at all participating venues including pop-up exhibitions, art demonstrations and panel discussions, plus there's also food and drinks on sale.
Saturday October 30
Saturday sees an open studio day at Ellis House and Living Artist Emporium in Doornfontein and at Victoria Yards in nearby Lorentzville. Ellis House is home to the studios of more than 20 artists spread across several floors, while nearby Living Artist Emporium is based inside the old Ellis Park tennis club. Over at Victoria Yards more studios await as well as art galleries, the excellent Foakes coffee shop and some wonderful artisan workshops.Sunday October 31
On Sunday the acclaimed Bag Factory Artists' Studio in Fordsburg (one of Joburg's longest-running studios) opens its doors, as well as the vast August House in New Doornfontein (home to more than 50 artists studios). The unique Nugget Square courtyard, home to the newly formed Stokvel Gallery launched by artist Gordon Froud, is also opening on Sunday.HOW TO GET THERE
Enabling visitors to combine a visit to all venues easily a free shuttle bus will be running every 15 to 20 minutes between the different artist studio communities on both days.
