The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) returns with its Early Spring Symphony Season, celebrating Women’s Month from Thu, Aug 8 – Thu, Aug 29 at the home of the JPO, the Linder Auditorium in Parktown. This exciting four-week programme features one classical concert per week, with a different guest conductor and soloist joining the orchestra in each performance. Each performance promises a unique blend of orchestral excellence and virtuoso solo performances. Season tickets are recommended for those looking to experience the full breadth of this musical celebration.

2024 Early Spring Symphony Season Programme

Concert 1 – Thu, Aug 8 at 19:30, featuring conductor Daniel Boico, with soloist Jonathan Radford on saxophone. Expect to hear Bernstein's West Side Story Overture, Glazunov's Concerto for Alto Saxophone, Kapustin's Concerto for Saxophone, and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 5.

Concert 2 – Thu, Aug 15 at 19:30, featuring conductor Ewa Strusinska, with soloist Emily Sun on violin. You'll be listening to Schumann's Carnaval, Barber's Concerto for Violin, and Beethoven's Symphony No. 7.

Concert 3 – Thu, Aug 22 at 19:30, featuring conductor Kalena Bovell, with soloist Pallavi Mahidhara on piano. On the playlist is Holst's St. Paul’s Suite No. 2, Saint-Saëns' Concerto for Piano No. 2, and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 5.

Concert 4 – Thu, Aug 29 at 19:30, featuring returning conductor Daniel Boico, with soloist Antonio Chen Guang on piano. Expect to hear Rossini's L’Italiana in Algeri Overture, Ravel's Ma Mère l’Oye (Mother Goose), and Beethoven's Concerto for Piano No. 5.
