Johannesburg Heritage Foundation – Delta Park Delights tour
Saturday Mar 22 09:30–11:30
This guided walking tour, led by Ed Coogan and Joy Campkin-Smith, starts at the Delta Park Environmental Centre, where you'll discover striking 1930s architecture, innovative technology of the era, and Joburg’s tallest palm trees. Inside, Geoff Lockwood will share the centre’s surprising past – from its early days as a sewage treatment works to its transformation into a thriving environmental hub.
From there, we’ll wander through the forest, discovering original Art Deco gates and sleek municipal houses inspired by London’s underground and power stations. The tour wraps up with a leisurely stroll along the Linden Stream, where blooming Cosmos flowers put on a dazzling autumn show. Want to explore more? Stick around for a visit to the Bird Sanctuary or take in the golden hues of Braamfontein Spruit’s towering Oaks and London Planes.
The meeting point for the JHF Delta Delights Tour is the Delta Park Environmental Centre (Entrance at Rd No. 3 & Rd No. 5, Victory Park) on Sat, Mar 22, 2025 at 09:30. Be sure to bring water, sun protection, snacks, and a change of shoes – as Delta Park can get muddy if there's been rain.
