Historic Jubilee Road on Joburg's Parktown Ridge offers incredible views of the northern suburbs and surrounds and is full of interesting heritage buildings and grand old mansions that date back to Joburg's earliest days.
This tour of the area, led by local heritage experts Joburg Heritage, starts at Emoyeni, designed in a Renaissance style by pioneering Joburg architects Leck and Emley in 1905 as a home for the Honourable Henry Hull, who later became the minister of finance in the first South African Union government. The tour also visit the Church of the Latter Day Saints, a modern addition to the road which is topped by six distinctive white spires, Savernake, another home designed by Leck and Emley (1904) and ends at the gorgeous Villa Arcadia. Built in 1909 for art collectors Lionel and Florence Philips by Sir Herbert Baker, Villa Arcadia is currently the home of Hollard’s contemporary art collection.
