Honeyman has pulled out all the stops for the return to the stage of Joburg Theatre's annual pantomime and no expense has been spared in bringing together a lavish set and impressive special effects, including high-tech holograms and 3D graphics. A major 'wow' moment in this year's production comes in the second act when Dolly Louw, playing GogoMama the Merry-Fairy Godmother, transforms an ordinary pumpkin into the magical carriage that took Cinderella to the ball. A fantastically effective use of technology that stunned audience members both very young and older (including us). It has to be seen to be believed.
Playing Cinderella is the delightful Kiruna-Lind Devar and the handsome Kyle Grant as her Prince Charming, who lives up to his name as one of the most charming characters on the stage. Bongi Mthombeni as Buttons delivers sweet melodies throughout his performance, including a rousing audience-interactive rendition of the Hokey Pokey.
Throw in some energetic choreography, catchy remakes of hit pop songs, lots of audience participation and the most dazzling, glittering sets and you have the perfect recipe for an uproariously fun festive theatre outing. Great entertainment for the whole family, it's a delight to see Janice Honeyman's pantomime finally back on stage.
