Hidden Giants by Universe on Stage
Friday Sep 13 - Saturday Sep 14
163 Civic Blvd, Braamfontein
An incredible, mind-bending fusion of science, music and art, created by physicist Dr Luca Pontiggia and pianist and composer Yasheen Modi, Hidden Giants tells the story of humanity's exploration of black holes. From our first attempts to capture these unseeable objects to our understanding of them today, this performance is "an immersive journey through our universe and our place in it."
It explores both the destructive power of black holes and their importance for the existence of life. It also considers how the fragments of early cosmic collisions can be found in all of us.
When they first founded Universe on Stage, Pontiggia and Modi aimed to fuse live music and breathtaking visuals to tell the story of the universe. It was their dream to bring the wonder of looking at the night sky into an educational setting without the disconnect that often comes with a science lesson.
"By introducing science content that captures the mind and combining it with music that engages the heart, you can inspire," says Pontiggia. Although they are from vastly different professional backgrounds, Pontiggia and Modi found that, by combining their skills, they could create something wholly unique. "Where else can you learn about the universe and listen to music? [It is] an experience that raises the hair on your arms," guarantees Modi.
What began as a pilot at The Bioscope in 2022 soon became a runaway success with 28 back-to-back sold-out shows. Suitable for all ages, we think Hidden Giants will ignite your curiosity and wonder about the universe, and inspire you to see the world in a completely new way.
Performances take place on Fri, Sep 13 and Sat, Sep 14 at 19:30. Book your tickets here.
