Twin brothers Hasan and Husain Essop’s clever and engrossing photos question Muslim stereotypes and critically engage with the climate of fear and uncertainty that currently dominates global political discourse. In this new exhibition the twins turn their focus to the Middle Eastern refugee crisis, told from the perspective of young Muslims in South Africa. Raised in the Cape Flats, the Essops draw parallels between the forced removals in South Africa, which includes their family, and the refuge crisis asking the provocative question “what constitutes refuge?”.<br />
