The event gets its name from a dramatic Haunted Forest walk populated by terrifyingly realistic actors who have escaped from the nearby Haunted House, a new addition to the line-up that ups the scare factor even more.
The festival runs from 18:00 – 00:00. The set-up includes a large food village, picnic area, and open-air screenings of horror and scare films. Arrive early for drinks from the bar and something to eat while you browse the product vendors and play games before braving a walk in the misty, frightful forest. The event is family-friendly, but certain activities do have age-restrictions.
There are prizes for the best-dressed and most spectacular costumes, including the most horrific family and the freakiest couple.
Trick-or-Treat?
Before things get real spooky, little ones (under the age of 12) have the opportunity to enjoy a game of trick-or-treat in the forest from 18:00 – 19:30. Children of all ages can access the forest, but it's up to the discretion of parents to decide how frightening the scenes are. The trick-or-treating includes candy, but not buckets. Either bring your own or join a bucket-making workshop at the event.
Saturday night fright-fest
Enter at your own risk. From 20:00 – 00:00, the Haunted Forest is open to be explored, promising "the most extreme, interactive, and immersive scare factor experience." A variety of terrifying scenes lie in wait as you make your way through the forest. According to the organisers, it's designed to "scare your souls into oblivion."Multiple life-size screens, actors, and eerie sounds make for a seriously spooky experience that will ensure your heart skips a beat (or two). A new addition to the programme, the Haunted House opens at 20:30 and is not suitable for small children.
Tickets are R350 p.p. for adults, R250 p.p. for teens, and R100 p.p. for children. Toddlers enter free. Entry to the Haunted House is not included in the ticket price, and costs an additional R50 p.p. Get tickets here.
