The Wits Theatre presents Hallelujah! a musical drama by writer and poet Xoli Norman and directed by Fiona Ramsay. Ramsay also directed the first production of the play in 2000 when it premiered at the Market Theatre and has expanded the play's cast to broaden the scope of issues that the play covers.

Hallelujah! is essentially a story of the battle between generations, of the ambitions of youth and the wisdom of maturity. The story centres around a group of young poets who are all on the verge of finding their voices, when their lives are significantly changed by a tragic event. Reflecting the turmoil of recent South African history, the seemingly random violence engulfing the country is a running theme that is countered by a script and soundtrack this is rich in poetry, blues and jazz.
