Great Expectations brings together a powerful collection of works by South African contemporary artists who, each in their own way, are capturing the diverse tapestry of experiences, aspirations and challenges that have shaped the nation in its post-apartheid era. These include Banele Khoza, Luyanda Zindela, Khulekani Mkhize, Mellaney Roberts, Mothobi Mefane, Thando Mama and Zakhele Hlabisa. All artworks on show are selected from Art Bank of South Africa's (ArtBankSA) contemporary collection, under the curatorship of Nonto Msomi.
Javett-UP CEO Lekgetho Makola says, "The Great Expectations exhibition will lead us into the new year within which Javett-UP will be reflecting on the 30 years of our democracy through compelling collaborative curatorial activations, where activities of writers, researchers, advocacy groups, historians, political scientists, musicians, etc. can intersect.”
Great Expectations runs until Sat Feb 18, 2024 at Javett-UP in Pretoria. Bookings to see the show can be made via bookings@javettup.com or 012 420 3960.
