Glenshiel Fair

Heritage property Glenshiel opens its doors for the annual Glenshiel Fair, a fundraiser for the Order of St John's community health care projects. Admire the grand panelled rooms of this beautiful historic mansion, designed by Sir Herbert Baker in 1910, and walk the wonderful gardens that overlook Joburg’s oldest suburb.

The views from up here on the top of the ridge are fantastic, especially at this time of year when the city's thousands of purple jacaranda trees are in full bloom.

This market focuses on artisanal, beautifully-made items featuring over 80 small businesses from the UK, Zimbabwe and across South Africa. Scarves, crafted bags, jewellery, clothing, and accessories are amongst the luxury goods available. Whether you're looking to bring some life into your home and office with beautiful linens, furniture and custom stationery, or get a head start on your Christmas to-do list there will be handcrafted treats from cookies to cakes and decorations. And it wouldn't be a fair without food, be sure to fill up on the range of delicious dishes from a world of cuisines from the tasty food stalls. Of course, there are boutique wines too, making this a great summer weekend event, that's all in aid of a good cause.

The proceeds of each entrance or raffle ticket sold goes towards the valuable work of the Order of St John (NPO 000-814) to further their eye care, first aid, youth development and community health care projects across the country. Previous fairs have allowed the Order of St John to provide health care training in numerous under resourced rural communities in partnership with the Phelophepa Train as well as refurbish a mobile eye clinic, able to reach those communities who do not have access to affordable, professional eye care services.
