Gareth Nyandoro - Juggling Skills

Cnr 7th St and 4th Ave, Parkhurst
Juggling Skills reflects the ways in which informal businesses in Zimbabwe spill onto the street, as the fragile economy demands entrepreneurial agility and street whit. Nyandoro draws inspiration to piece together intricate paper-based works that depict this existential economic downslide. Some of the titles of his works seek inspiration from the evolution of slang in Zimbabwean street culture, through the manifestation of code-switching, code-mixing and patterns that have developed alongside Zimbabwe’s shifting economy. Shona and English words are mixed together to reveal and confront the oppressive environment and ongoing struggles to survive in contemporary Zimbabwe.
In Juggling Skills Nyandoro depicts survival, street culture and a glimpse of his own personal perspectives on the complex broader socio-economic environment he resides in.
