This month we're all about wining and dining with a plethora of wine events on the cards, alongside magical markets that will get you in the Christmas spirit and even pairings of chocolate and spirits. Chef Tyron Gentry is now at the helm of The Shortmarket Club in Rosebank. Gentry is no stranger to the Luke Dale Roberts’ collection; he started his professional career at The Test Kitchen before heading to Nice in France to work in the Michelin-starred kitchens of JAN. After heading up the Test Kitchen Carbon in Johannesburg he took a year off to pursue other ventures, but is now back and ready to impress with some new additions to the modern upmarket menu. We look forward to what he has to offer.

We baked the choc chip cookies and pecan nut shortbread in the airfryer and they came out perfectly. No mess, no fuss, just delicious from start to finish. They really are the real deal. You don’t want to miss this one! Pronounced 'antics', Andticks at No.16 by Vicky Ross is an exciting new pop-up concept store. Look forward to curated food offerings from the likes of La Tarte Pâtisserie, Durban Deli, Glory Joburg, as well as art and crafts workshops, wine tastings, gorgeous accessories, elegant clothing, homeware, ceramics, gifts, curated artworks, children's book readings and live music performances. Hosted at a gorgeous heritage home in Parktown there really is something for everyone! The first edition of this unique retail experience runs until Sun, Nov 26 and it takes place every Fri, Sat and Sun. Find out all the juicy details here.

We reviewed +258 A Taste of Mozambique in the Design Quarter in Fourways and got a taste for their peri-peri chicken served with lashings of sauce and crispy fries, the mark of a good Mozambican restaurant. + 258 Mozambique is a relaxed spot and we recommend it for a weekend hangout. Read our full review here.

Island Bar at Southern Sun Hyde Park is one of those magnificent rooftop spots you don’t get to experience often enough. With an upbeat, upmarket vibe and panoramic views across the north of the city, it’s the perfect place to sit back, relax and soak in the scene. Glory has opened its doors and is in full swing in their new home in Parktown North. Look forward to six-course dinners paired with cooking classes and more laidback sharing lunches. The menus are always eclectic and scrumptious, and feature anything and everything from fermented daikon katsu bao buns to porcini and truffle arancini. We’ve started a new series, where we put the fun back into wine tasting. We’ve created our first mini-wine review for your entertainment and, hopefully, enjoyment, using words that you'll actually understand. Good Juice Wine Fair

A wine festival for everyone, celebrating the best in natural and low-intervention wines from South Africa alongside sensational street food and live DJs. Good Juice Wine Fair features 26 winemakers with over 100 wines to taste, including Brunia, Processus, Magna Carta and Momento, with food from Acid Food and Wine Bar, Mother-in-Law and Oboi Bakery and takes place on Sat, Nov 4 in Parktown. Get your tickets here.

The Pot Luck Club Johannesburg has announced the launch of a monthly GH MUMM Brunch Affair on the last Sunday of every month. The first of these exclusive brunch events will take place on Oct 29, with seating commencing at 11:00. The menu comprises bloody Mary oysters, Pot Luck Club’s signature Arnold Bennet, the delectable peri peri chicken and a decadent hertzoggie for dessert. It's R640 p.p. and includes a glass of GH MUMM Brut or Rosé.

Standard Bank WineX 

South Africa's biggest and most anticipated wine show is upon us! Standard Bank WineX is happening in Joburg until Fri, Oct 27. Over 150 exhibitors have taken over the Sandton Convention Centre, showcasing a mammoth 800 wines, Champagnes, Cap Classiques, ports and pot-still brandies.

Fat Zebra just opened their very own wine bar, Kleinbietjie Wyn, a pint-sized wine bar next door to the much-loved neighbourhood eatery in Linden. 

Berries and Bubbles

At Candlelight Bubbles and Berries on Parkhurst's 4th Avenue on Sat, Nov 4 expect proseccos, Champagne, sparkling wines and non-alcoholic bubbly alongside berries, deli and eatery stalls, plus there are boutique gift stalls for those in search of some year-end retail therapy. Plus 4th Avenue restaurants will also be serving up street food menus in conjunction with their regular sit-down offerings. There’s also kids' play area so there’s entertainment for the whole family. Tickets are only required for bubbly tasting and are R350 p.p.

Ginologist, South Africa’s most awarded gin paired with luxury Jack Rabbit chocolate bonbons. It sounds pretty enticing, doesn’t it? It’s all happening on Sat, Nov 4 at Ginologist’s headquarters at 1 Fox Street and includes a tour of the distillery. Get your tickets here. Admission is R160 p.p.

It's Glenshiel Market time 

The Glenshiel Christmas Fair is a fabulously festive market with a focus on quality, artisanal items and featuring over 80 small businesses. Think scarves, leather handbags, jewellery, clothing, accessories and other luxury goods as well as your fill of pizza, paella, paninis and authentic Greek and Argentinian cuisine. Keyes Art Mile to welcome two new restaurants

Keyes Art Mile welcomes The Prawnery this October and from their socials, it looks like their stellar new venue is going to have jaws dropping as much as prawns popping. There’s also a new sushi and cocktail spot by the name of Kanpai boasting an opulent sushi menu, curated bubbles, signature cocktails, and premium wines that look pretty swish. We’ll be sure to get there as soon as doors open so watch this space.

ADUNA BISTRO
African Pride Hotel Melrose Arch recently opened their newly renovated space, Aduna Bistro. The setting reminds us somewhat of the gorgeous Winchester Mansions in Cape Town: black and white tones and tiles frame a picturesque patio and indoor dining area dappled with palms. They’re open morning and night serving simple bistro fare and have a rather swanky-looking cocktail list.  

GOURMET GIMBA 
Just opened Melville's 9th Street, Gourmet Gimba boasts a menu packed with baos, bold flavours  and banging condiments. They've got southern fried chicken and pulled pork belly baos as well as oyster mushroom and crispy fried cauliflower vegan-friendly versions on offer. It sounds like a vibe and from their socials, it looks like one too.

CLUB COMO
Club Como has just opened at The Morningside Shopping Centre bringing together a menu made up of modern Mediterranean flavours from Italy, Greece, Portugal and Spain. 

TEMPO LUXURY
At Rivonia Crossing you’ll find Tempo Luxury where they’re serving up fusion food, cocktails and a good time in equal measure.

MY DELI
My Deli will be closing their Blairgowrie store at the end of November so be sure to pay them a visit and get one of their signature sandwiches or quiches before bidding it farewell. But don't fear, as everything you could order in store will still be available online and their platters and catering options all remain the same.
