FNB Art Joburg 2024
Friday Sep 6 - Sunday Sep 8
Maude St, Sandton
It's time to mark your calendar for the 2024 edition of FNB Art Joburg, Africa's longest-running contemporary art fair. It's one of Joburg's annual cultural highlights, drawing crowds of art lovers and the curious for an excellent line-up of art from Africa and the global diaspora. Highlights last year included Serge Alain Nitegeka's monumental sculptures from the Liminal Cargo series and Kendell Geers' cheeky, interactive installation of footballs donning latex masks of different presidents' faces.
Across seven specialised sections, FNB Art Joburg's 2024 offering will include curated booths from prominent galleries, printmaking studios and publishing houses, larger-than-life installations, an incubation for tomorrow's leaders in art, and thought-provoking talks.
In addition to the three-day fair, Open City is FNB Art Joburg's initiative to spotlight independent and emerging cultural practitioners. This year, the Open City programme of free and ticketed events runs from Thu, Aug 29 – Thu, Sep 19. Find some of the highlights here. Plus, on Sat, Aug 31, there will be another iteration of BMW Art Generation, which launched last year at William Kentridge's Centre for the Less Good Idea. Stay tuned for more details.
