Fathema Bemath and Frans Thoka: The Body in the World
Saturday Oct 8 - Friday Nov 4
19-21 Keyes Ave, Rosebank
Both artists use a variety of unique materials to create their sculptures and paintings and their often physical work looks at the effects that systemic injustices such as colonialism, misogyny and racism exert on the body. Bemath does this through sculptural works which flcutuate between erasure and emergence. Thoka uses prison blankets as a medium to look at unvisited traumas exerted both during and after apartheid, and his paintings use strikingly rich symbolism to delve into complex topics.
