This documentary film brings the horrors of the apartheid-era gold mining industry to light, highlighting some of the worst atrocities that occurred during this century-long epoch. Dying for Gold tells the story of exploitation and how some of Southern Africa’s indigenous black societies were shattered in order to create a pool of cheap labour that mined some of the world’s richest deposits of gold. Expect a resurfacing of untold stories and a view of how these communities were decimated and the role played by the mining industry in shaping apartheid South Africa.
