Dr Esther Mahlangu 85
Nov 19 - Dec 20 2020
10 High St, Melrose Arch
A disrupter from an early age, Mahlangu was the first person to reimagine traditional Ndebele design, long used for decorating houses, in entirely new ways. Throughout her seven decades working as an artist Mahlangu has continually developed her highly idiosyncratic art form, finding new ways to present colourful geometrical shapes that sit together in the most perfect symmtery.
In this latest exhibition some of the largest canvases ever created by the artist are on display alongside an entraliling collection of 85 smaller notebook-sized canvases and a brand new series of abstract painting sculptures, an exciting and expressive art form that is entirely new for the artist.
Complementing the physical gallery exhibition is an excellent online viewing room exhibition where you can read and listen to interviews with the artist.
