Champions for Change: Break The Cycle Of Silence at Keyes Art Mile
Friday Nov 25 - Saturday Dec 10
19-21 Keyes Ave, Rosebank
Four different works make up the exhibition and these were made in conjunction with South African men. From canvas to cans consisted of installations in the city which were then translated into illustrations, for Makarapa fans designed head-dresses embodying the Champions for Change virtues and wore these at a half-time activation at the Carling Black Label Cup. Brotherhood brought together South Africa's superfans to create work expressing themselves and reflecting on the men they are and want to be. Break your silence shows the power of self-expression to save lives, with men who speak about their emotions four times less likely to commit women abuse.
South Africa's dismal rates of women and child abuse are no secret and the importance of creating spaces for dialogue cannot be understated. Champions for Change not only highlights that the issue is systemic but that change needs to start with individual men breaking dangerous conceptions of what it means to be a man.
Join Champions for Change and take their six virtues course to find out what you can do to make a difference.
