*Unfortunately, the Roof of Africa experience has been closed since the start of the first lockdown in March 2020. Currently there is no indication that there are plans to reopen this attraction.
Despite being built way back in the 1970s, the hulking 223-metre colossus that is the Carlton Centre is still Africa's tallest skyscraper. Nowadays the Carlton, like the rest of the area around it, no longer commands the sense of prestige it once did, but the view from the 50th floor remains unrivalled. The 360-degree Roof of Africa viewing level is a great place to get perspective on the city's incredible scale and many neighbourhoods. Aside from the view, there's little to do up here with just a scuzzy cafe and a small collection of photos, although the telescopes are a welcome addition to the bird's-eye experience. The entrance kiosk and lifts are tricky to find. Head down the escalators in the Carlton Centre mall (in the centre of the building) in the direction of the music store and look out for the Roof of Africa logo at the head of a corridor to your left.

I wish to bring a group through to Carlton Centre rooftop, I have tried for a week now everyday phoning the 011 308 1331 number as I have some enquiries around making this a special occasion. I have left messages and no one phones back. I am a South African and appalled that I can''t get through to one of our countries icon buildings. We have the best country in the world for tourists to visit but this is where we fall down so badly! SERVICE SERVICE SERVICE!
