Joburg Theatre presents the premiere of <em>Calling Me Home,</em> a new African musical about love, hope and sorrow that weaves together contemporary themes of migration and the battles faced by refugees seeking to find their place in a new culture. With an original score that mixes classical, African hybrid, jazz and traditional folk song styles, this exciting new production also boasts a star-studded cast including Zolani Mahola, lead singer of South African Afropop group Freshlyground.<br /> <br /> The story centres around Grace, a young woman who escapes her war-torn village to find a new life in America. Along the way she meets the courageous Lindiwe (Zolani Mahola) who is fleeing an abusive relationship and the brave yet troubled recovering addict Isabella. As she travels across Africa to start a new life in America, Grace finds both love and hardship along the way, eventually arriving in a foreign city where she is forced to search again for the true meaning of home from a foreign land.
