As part of the launch party for a new series of art books by the Imbali Visual Literacy Project, William Kentridge, Sam Nhlengethwa, and Nandipha Mntambo look back (and forward) at their own careers discussing where and how they first became interested in art.  An unmissable opportunity to hear about the early art experiences of three of South Africa's foremost artists while supporting one of Joburg's longest running arts charities.

The Imabli Artbooks are a series of books that aim to introduce young people to the world of art and the practice of both making art and admiring art. Founded in 1988 to develop strategies to facilitate creative arts education programmes in poorly resourced schools, the project has since expanded its focus to include creative skills-development for South Africa’s unemployed youth in specific income-generating activities such as embroidery, sewing, textile screen printing, ceramics, beading and jewellery making. Imbali sells its designs, which include everything from cushions and tablecloths to clothing and jewellery, at their official shop in the Museum Africa foyer.

The book launch and artist talk takes place at Stop Sign Gallery in Newtown and starts at 18:30 for 19:00. To attend RSVP to imbali@absamail.co.za
