Standard Bank Gallery is home to Blessing Ngobeni's multimedia solo exhibition Ntsumi Ya Vutomi .
Building on his 2020 exhibition, Chaotic Pleaure, this new body of work features paintings, sculptures, installations and video animations. Ngobeni has become known for his seemingly simple use of colour and figuration to create complex, collage-like paintings and videos. In Ntsumi Ya Vutomi, Ngobeni continues his explorations in this tradition while further investigating "the all-encompassing violence of the post-colony and its impact on black lives."
Curated by Thembinkosi Goniwe alongside Nkuli Nhleko, Ntsumi Ya Vutomi is framed as a survey exhibition (Ngobeni prefers to think of it as “a time-lapse”) that will provide viewers with many of the artist's familiar works as well as further explorations with form, and new takes on old bodies of work.
