The Basha Uhuru Festival has become a beloved gathering for young people across Gauteng during Youth Month. This year, it celebrates its 12th year and takes place from Thu, Jun 27 –  Sat, Jun 29 at Constitution Hill. It's not just an event, it's a movement that showcases and supports the creative community through exhibitions, profiles, and ongoing support programmes like The Creative Uprising. Whether you're into music, art, or simply love exploring diverse cultural expressions, Basha Uhuru Festival offers something for everyone to enjoy and partake in, embracing youth culture and creativity in Joburg in various ways.

The Creative Conference is a pivotal component of the Basha Uhuru Festival. Taking place on Thu, Jun 27 and  Fri, Jun, 28,  it offers engaging conversations and hands-on workshops tailored to sharpen your creative skills and explore new solutions. With contributions from The National Youth Coalition, Iqhawe Magazine, and special panels hosted by actress Sophie Ndaba on health and wellness, plus insights from youth organisation Shamsaan and their Butterfly Souls workshop on the power of creative expression in healing and activism, it an opportunity to collaborate, develop, and upskill within Joburg's vibrant creative community. Curated by the talented actress and director Mmabatho MontshoThe Visions of Freedom Film Festival 2024 - Student Edition takes place on Fri, Jun 28 from 16:00 and promises to be an inspiring day celebrating the creative spirit of South African film students. Be moved by films that capture their joys, challenges, and artistic triumphs under the theme "Visions of Freedom." It's not just about movies but also a chance for industry leaders to spot rising talent and offer exciting opportunities in the form of internships and mentorship. Entrance to the film festival is free.

The final day of the Basha Uhuru Festival, Sat, Jun 29, sees creativity and culture at the Makers Market x 6AM Lifestyle. Curated by designer Floyd Manotoana of Floyd Avenue and streetwear designer and store owner Andile Cele of Dope Store,  this vibrant market features a pop-up shop by members of Con Hill’s Creative Uprising Hub alongside the unique 6AM Lifestyle experience. Discover an eclectic mix of handmade treasures, including fashion, beauty and skincare, accessories, and home décor, all blending traditional craftsmanship with modern trends. Entrance is free.

Alongside the market, you can groove to Sounds of Freedom Music Festival, curated to showcase both up-and-coming artists and local megastars with electrifying live performances from headliners like Kabza De Small, MÖRDA, Sjava, and more. With great local music, food and drinks, and a lively atmosphere, it's the ultimate way to wrap up the Basha Uhuru Festival. Tickets from R150 p.p.
