Back to the City is Africa's biggest hip hop and street culture festival, pulling crowds of up to 20,000 people. Typically held on Freedom Day in April, this year's festival is a spring affair on Sat, Oct 12 from 14:00 at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown.

Expect live stages spread across Mary Fitzgerald Square in downtown Joburg, with well-known MCs, beatboxers, rappers, and dancers performing throughout the day. There are usually also basketball courts, skating ramps, graffiti areas, as well as the Newtown Market, where over 40 thrift stalls, 10 sneaker traders, and 10 vinyl collectors await. Discover rare finds, score vintage kicks, and vibe to classic beats. Come early, because the best treasures go fast.

This year's Back to the City programme boasts more than 100 local and international artists, 60 stalls, and various activities to enjoy. The line-up includes international headliner, US rapper Benny The Butcher, alongside Nasty C, Blxckie, Maglera Doe Boy, Big Zulu, Nadia Nakai, Priddy Ugly, Stogie T, and many more incredible acts from across the globe.
