This will be a must-see. A once-off performance in Pretoria by a stellar cast of young musicians from across the African continent. CEO and artistic director of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO) and the Mzansi National Philharmonic, Bongani Tembe, brings together a new and exciting symphony of young talent from South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Mozambique, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, all tuning up for their big début as the Africa United Youth Orchestra. 

This historic performance on Sun, Jul 28 at ZK Matthews Great Hall at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in Pretoria is led by American conductor William Eddins with an ensemble that promises to entertain with African musical excellence. The programme features works by South African composers Michael Mosoeu Moerane (the first black South African to write a symphonic poem), Mzilikazi Khumalo (who composed the first Zulu language opera), and Bongani Ndodana-Breen (composer of Winnie, The Opera, based on the life of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela). The event also features the mesmerising arias of soprano Masabane Cecilia Rangwanasha who will finish the evening with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9, From the New World.
