Stretching for some seven kilometres along the coast, all the way from the Igalo's beachfront park in the west to the town of Meljine in the east, Herceg Novi's beautiful waterfront promenade is the centre of the action and abuzz of activity during the summer months and a world away from the inland Adriatic Highway that runs parallel. Officially known as Šetalište Pet Danica (or the Five Danica Promenade), the pathway is named after five young girls who were killed whilst fighting in World War II. Through the Igalo and Herceg Novi stretches you'll find various waterfront restaurants, bars, shops, beaches and more, while the further east you head the generally calmer things become.
Originally created for the Sarajevo-Zelenika railway, the promenade was recently extended through a former train tunnel underneath the hill between Miljine and Zelenika, and now officially ends at the Zelenika marina. Walking its length as early as possible during your stay is highly recommended, as it gives a much different feel for the area and its constituent towns and settlements as well as better orientation, which will help you make the most of your time.
