Tomb of Nikos Kazantzakis

Another famous figure originating from Crete is Nikos Kazantzakis. The writer who gained international fame with his novels Zorba the Greek, Captain Mihalis and The Last Temptation of Christ was born in Heraklion in 1883. Many objects are named after him including the Heraklion Airport. The tomb of the Cretan writer is a place for Greek people to pay homage to one of their most prominent compatriots.
