It is a challenge to reach some of the most spectacular in Western Crete. This is exactly the case speaking of Balos situated in the remote Gramvouse Peninsula. There is no proper road leading to that dazzling lagoon. You need to reach Kissamos 40 kilometers west of Chania, and then your adventure may continue in two different ways. It can be a boat trip. You need to be on the port definitely before noon. The lunch during the cruise is an option, but you need to add it. The other way is renting a 4x4 jeep and taking on a tour through the mountain roads. The latter looks riskier but might be the ultimate adventure, especially when reaching Balos.
