On the night of 9 November 1938, Hanover saw the destruction of the Jewish synagogue in the Calenberger Neustadt, in what has become known as Kristallnacht. Ninety-seven Jewish-owned shops and 27 apartments owned by Jewish citizens were also destroyed. Situated on this site in the Bult district, is a cemetery, synagogue and community meeting space.
