Just outside the city of Groningen, lies Westerwolde. Nostalgic souls whisper that the nation of the Netherlands began here. In truth, its forests and heaths are a gift from Mother Nature. Add to this a handful of picturesque canals, ditches and streams and your typical Dutch landscape of meadows, fields and hedgerows is complete. Naturally, it’s the perfect place for mountain bikers. Five different routes, varying from 12 to 45km are available but in total there are more than 200km bike trails at your disposal. The route is challenging for beginners as well as experienced thrill seekers.
