Groninger Museum

  Museumeiland 1      (+31) 503 66 65 55     more than a year ago
Groningen’s best museum has to be the Groninger Museum. This colourful building was designed by renowned Italian architect Alessandro Mendini. The other pavilions, halls and the fascinating bridge were created by other well-known designers and architects and the result has been a world-class museum since 1994 building. The history and culture of the city and province of Groningen can be discovered via archaeological finds, 17th-century drawings, portraits of prominent Groningers and impressive examples of regional arts and crafts and applied arts, such as Groningen silver. Asian ceramics are also on display and the substantial De Ploeg collection of modern art from the 1920s and 30s is another must-see. Please note that exhibitions change regularly so check its website to see what's on before visiting.
