A good and very cheap alternative to the dozen or so expensive car park garages in the centre are the five Park & Ride (P+R) facilities at the edge of the centre. All together they can host 2,000 cars. Park your vehicle here, take the public bus to the centre (every ten minutes during shopping hours, not on Sundays) and for a return ticket (for a maximum of five people) you pay €6. Tickets can be bought at machines at the P&R, or from the driver. Signs for the nearest P+R site are marked on the highways surrounding Groningen.
