Before Isère, there was Dauphiné. The Musée Dauphinois has a stunning location on the slopes of Bastille inside the gorgeous convent of Sainte-Marie-d’en-Bas. The monastery has seen all sorts in charge over the years, but the regional museum it now hosts is one of the finest in town. The Visitation Chapel gets main event billing, a gorgeous piece of religious architecture and design that has become an important pilgrimage of sorts for local folk. There is more to the museum than a vital chapel though — we find exhibitions, gardens, collections and plenty more here.
